What is the American Opportunity Credit?

American Opportunity Tax Credit allows students who pay taxes to get a tax refund for part of their tuition expenses.

The American Opportunity Tax Credit is especially attractive as it decrease the taxable income of up to $2,500 per year.

What if I did not earn any money or did not pay any taxes?

Even if you did not have an income or you did not pay taxes in the United States, you are still eligible for the refund. Since you do not owe any taxes, you get the refund as cash, directly into your account. The refund is calculated by 40% of the credit (up to $1,000) calculated for tuition expenses.

Almost all the students in Israel who meet the criteria and study at one of the six accredited universities or the IDC are eligible for the refund!

The refundable credit may reach up to $1,000 a year, for 4 years, and also can be claimed retroactively up to three years.
